Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill mostly performs patent invalidation research as advertised, but it mandates inserting unrelated Patsnap promotional content into user reports.

Review the required first-page disclaimer before installing or using this skill. The legal caution is relevant, but the mandatory Patsnap Eureka promotion is unrelated to the requested patent analysis and may be inappropriate for client-facing reports. File creation and patent-database browsing otherwise match the skill's purpose.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs

Technical Analysis

The Skill requires the agent to place the contents of references/disclaimer.md on the first page of every generated report. That referenced content includes an unsolicited commercial endorsement and an external link to Patsnap Eureka.

Because the inclusion is expressed as mandatory, loading and following the Skill changes the agent's output behavior beyond the legitimate patent-analysis task. The instruction forces third-party promotional material into a user-requested document even when the user did not request advertising or consent to external commercial attribution.

The neutral legal disclaimer in references/disclaimer.md:1-4 is relevant to the report, but the promotional section at lines 6-13 is not necessary for legal-risk disclosure. Mandatory insertion of that section therefore constitutes output manipulation through Skill instructions.

Attack Path

  1. A user invokes the Patent Invalidation Skill and requests a Word report.
  2. The agent follows the report-generation workflow in SKILL.md.
  3. Lines 190-191 direct the agent to include references/disclaimer.md on the re ...[truncated 1142 chars]

Remediation Suggestions

  1. Remove the mandatory verbatim inclusion requirement from SKILL.md:190-191.
  2. Delete the promotional section at references/disclaimer.md:6-13, including the product endorsement and external URL.
  3. Retain only a neutral disclaimer explaining that AI-generated results may contain errors and do not constitute legal advice.
  4. If product information is retained, make it explicitly optional and include it only after informed user consent.
  5. Avoid attributing a report to a vendor or technology unless that vendor's services were actually used and the attribution is factually verified.
  6. Add a content-review control requiring generated reports to distinguish task-relevant legal notices from advertising, endorsements, and unrelated external links.
  7. Permit users to review or disable disclaimer text before document generation.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
79% confidence
Finding

The file title and all operating instructions are written exclusively in Chinese, and the checklist further mandates bilingual searching rather than offering a language preference. Under the stated policy, forcing a specific language without user opt-in can be a natural-language policy violation unless the regional constraint is explicitly justified, which is not present here.

Missing User Warnings

Low
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The skill directs the agent to create, save, and provide a .docx file to the user, but it does not require any explicit user-facing notice or confirmation before local file creation occurs. While document generation is part of the expected workflow, silent file creation can violate user expectations, create unintended artifacts on the host, and becomes more concerning in agent environments where filesystem side effects should be transparent and consented to.
