CamScanner Translate Image

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill does what it claims: it sends a user-chosen image to CamScanner for translation and saves the translated image locally.

Install only if you are comfortable sending selected images to CamScanner for processing. Avoid using it on sensitive IDs, contracts, private screenshots, or confidential documents unless that third-party processing is acceptable.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Trigger AbuseOverly Broad Trigger, Shadow Command Trigger, Keyword Baiting Trigger
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
94% confidence
Finding

The skill advertises broad natural-language triggers such as 'translate this to English/Japanese/Korean/etc.' and 'when the user has an image with foreign text and wants it translated,' which can overlap with ordinary conversation and cause the skill to activate unexpectedly. Because the skill uploads user-provided images to a third-party service, accidental invocation can lead to unintended data transfer of sensitive images or documents.

External Transmission

Medium
Category
Data Exfiltration
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

This step uploads a local image file to an external CamScanner server, creating a real data-exfiltration boundary from the local environment to a third party. Even though the skill discloses the behavior, the operation can expose sensitive screenshots, IDs, scans, or documents if invoked on private files without strong consent and validation controls.

External Transmission

Confidence
60% confidence
Finding

Data is being sent to an external URL. This could be legitimate telemetry or data exfiltration. Manual review is recommended.
