Security audit

youtube trending

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill coherently fetches public YouTube trending data using a user-provided Google API key and does not show hidden or destructive behavior.

Install only if you are comfortable providing a YouTube Data API key to this skill's runtime. Prefer a restricted Google API key limited to the YouTube Data API and keep normal key hygiene; adding it to shell profile files makes it available in future terminal sessions.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Rogue AgentSelf-Modification, Session Persistence
  • MCP Least PrivilegeUnderdeclared Capability, Wildcard Permission, Missing Permission Declaration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access

Undeclared Tool Scope

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
92% confidence
Finding

The skill declares that it requires an environment variable and performs outbound network access, but it does not explicitly declare a tool scope such as permissions or allowed-tools. That creates an authorization and review gap: an agent or platform may execute the skill with broader capabilities than intended, making secret access and network egress less transparent and less constrained.

Session Persistence

Medium
Category
Rogue Agent
Confidence
60% confidence
Finding

Skill establishes unauthorized persistence across sessions via cron jobs, startup scripts, or state files. Session persistence allows an attacker to maintain access beyond the current interaction.

## Setup: get a free API key

1. Go to [Google Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com/)
2. Create a project (or select an existing one)
3. Enable **YouTube Data API v3** in the API Library
4. Go to **Credentials → Create Credentials → API key**
5. Set the environment variable for your platform (see below)
