Security audit

Proactive Agent 3.1.0

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is not clearly malicious, but it installs broad persistent agent behavior that can remember personal details, modify workspace instructions, run background-style agent tasks, and make local cleanup decisions with weak user control.

Review this carefully before installing. It is designed to make an agent persistent and proactive, so install only in a workspace where you are comfortable with local memory files containing personal context, preferences, relationships, and session history. Disable or narrow automatic memory capture, autonomous cron/agentTurn jobs, self-modification of AGENTS.md or skill files, and heartbeat cleanup actions unless you explicitly want those behaviors. Treat the bundled audit script as a manual report-only check and inspect what it reads before running it.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
  • System PersistenceInstalls backdoors, hooks, services, or scheduled tasks that survive the run
  • Insecure Skill Coding PracticesFinds exploitable flaws such as hardcoded secrets or command injection

It further instructs the agent to infer and record these attributes from ordinary conversation, even outside formal onboarding. This scope exceeds the minimum information necessary to provide general proactive assistance. The design does not define per-field consent, sensitivity classification, ret ...[truncated 1034 chars]

Unsafe Filename Handling Weakens Secret Scanning

Filenames containing spaces, tabs, or newlines are therefore split into multiple values or skipped. Additionally, the filename is passed to `grep` without an option terminator. A filename beginning with `-` may be interpreted as a `grep` option rather than as a path. Although quoting prevents another round of ordinary word splitting at that stage, it does not prevent option interpretation. The scanner can therefore report completion while failing to inspect some matching files. ### Attack Path 1. An attacker or local process creates a secret-bearing file whose name contains whitespace, a newline, or an option-like prefix. 2. The file matches one of the intended extensions or `.env*`. 3. `ls` emits the filename into command substitution. 4. The shell splits or transforms the emitted name, or `grep` treats it as an option. 5. The `[ -f "$f" ]` check fails for split fragments, or `grep` does not scan the intended file. 6. The script prints “Secret scan complete” without warning about the exposed secret. ### Impact Assessment The flaw does not directly execute attacker-controlle ...[truncated 270 chars]

Avoid parsing `ls` output in scripts. 2. Use `--` before every attacker-influenced filename passed to command-line tools. 3. Test the scanner with spaces, newlines, wildcard characters, and leading hyphens in filenames. 4. Return a nonzero status when files cannot be scanned. 5. Report the number of files discovered and successfully inspected. 6. Consider recursive scanning when the intended security policy includes nested workspace files. ]]>

Finding

The quick-start/onboarding flow says the agent offers to get to know the user and auto-populates USER.md and SOUL.md from answers, but it does not provide a clear user-facing warning about retention, sensitivity, or where data is stored. This creates a meaningful privacy risk because profile data may be persisted by default without informed consent or minimization.

Finding

The skill presents itself primarily as a proactive-agent architecture, but its quick-start flow invokes a security audit script and the finding indicates additional local security/configuration inspection behavior not clearly disclosed in the top-level purpose. That mismatch matters because users may install a productivity skill without realizing it will inspect repository files, credentials-related paths, or local agent config, expanding trust and privacy risk.

Missing User Warnings

High
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The cleanup section includes destructive or state-changing actions such as closing apps and moving screenshots to trash without any warning, preview step, or confirmation requirement. In an autonomous heartbeat context, this can cause data loss, interrupt workflows, and violate user expectations about what the agent may change on the system.

Missing User Warnings

High
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
98% confidence
Finding

The opportunistic learning section encourages extracting personal details from ordinary conversation and recording them to persistent memory without a clear warning at the time of collection. This is more dangerous than explicit onboarding because the user may not realize casual remarks about location, relationships, or projects are being converted into a durable profile.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

The skill repeatedly instructs the agent to anticipate needs and act proactively without a narrowly scoped trigger, which can cause unintended invocation and actions outside the user's explicit request. In an agent with tools, broad activation language increases the chance of surprise behaviors, excessive data handling, or actions taken from inferred rather than confirmed intent.
