Ipfs Client

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is a coherent read-only IPFS helper; its main caveat is that public gateways can observe requested content identifiers.

Use a local node or trusted gateway for sensitive CIDs, IPNS names, enterprise investigations, or private interest patterns. Public gateways are convenient but can observe request metadata. Avoid pasting private local content into hashing examples unless you intend the agent to process it locally.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • MCP Tool PoisoningHidden Instructions, Unicode Deception, Parameter Description Injection
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code

Missing User Warnings

Finding

The skill encourages use of public IPFS gateways for content retrieval but does not warn that every request reveals queried CIDs, IPNS names, client IP address, user agent, timing, and possibly sensitive interest patterns to third-party operators. In a privacy-sensitive or enterprise setting, this can leak browsing intent, investigative targets, or proprietary identifiers even though the skill is nominally read-only.

Intent-Code Divergence

Finding

The skill repeatedly documents itself as a read-only IPFS query tool with no publishing or non-query operations. However, the example ipfs add --only-hash is an add-style command that computes a CID from local input, which is outside the stated scope of fetching, inspecting, exploring DAGs, and resolving names.
