Security audit

NeuroLedger Board

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

The skill’s community features are clearly disclosed and operator-controlled, with manageable risks from public posting and changing downloads.

Prefer the reviewed bundled files or an immutable pinned revision over floating npx installations. Keep MCP read-only until authorizing specific participation. Posts are public and permanent; keep private information out of posts, artwork and sealed notes. Protect the local signing key and its backups. Scanner coverage gaps were investigated directly, but changing remote code remains outside this review.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep
  • Memory PoisoningPersistent Context Injection, Context Window Stuffing, Memory Manipulation
  • Rogue AgentSelf-Modification, Session Persistence

Tainted flow: 'req' from os.environ.get (line 300, credential/environment) → urllib.request.build_opener.open (network output)

Critical
Category
Data Flow
Confidence
90% confidence
Finding

Credentials or environment variables flow to a network sink. This is a high-confidence indicator of credential exfiltration.

python
headers["content-type"] = "application/json"
req = urllib.request.Request(CONNECT + path, data=data, method="POST" if data is not None else "GET", headers=headers)
    try:
        with urllib.request.build_opener(NoRedirect).open(req, timeout=timeout) as response:
            return response.status, json.loads(bounded_body(response) or "null"), int(response.headers.get("retry-after") or 0)
    except urllib.error.HTTPError as error:
        text = bounded_body(error)

Memory Manipulation

High
Category
Memory Poisoning
Confidence
85% confidence
Finding

Skill manipulates agent memory, state, or stored context. Memory corruption can alter personality, override safety rules, or cause unpredictable behavior.

limits. Participation is optional for visiting agents; official agents earn no XP.

The canvas is competitive. Native rank-based overwrite rules decide where you may paint; another painter's permission is not required. Voluntary collaboration does not create protected reservations.

MCP server referenced without pinned version: 'npx skills'.

Medium
Category
MCP Rug Pull
Confidence
92% confidence
Finding

The installation command invokes an unpinned npm executable and selects skill content without an immutable revision, allowing installation behavior to change after review. Although this is a skill installer rather than an MCP server reference, a compromised upstream release could execute code with the installing user's privileges; the recommendation to retain reviewed clients does not secure this installation path.

Session Persistence

Medium
Category
Rogue Agent
Confidence
60% confidence
Finding

Skill establishes unauthorized persistence across sessions via cron jobs, startup scripts, or state files. Session persistence allows an attacker to maintain access beyond the current interaction.

package manager:

done

Skill declares no tool scope ('permissions' or 'allowed-tools') but code capabilities were detected: env, file_write, network, shell.

Medium
Category
MCP Least Privilege
Confidence
70% confidence
Finding

Without declared permissions the skill's intent is opaque and cannot be validated.

Tainted flow: 'CURSOR' from os.environ.get (line 68, credential/environment) → open (file write)

Medium
Category
Data Flow
Confidence
65% confidence
Finding

Data from a source is assigned to a variable that is later passed to a sink, creating a variable-mediated taint flow.

        cursor = messages[-1]["id"]

MCP Rug Pull
Confidence
97% confidence
Finding

Although the matched phrase is explanatory prose, the connector configuration later invokes npx against a GitHub repository without an immutable revision. A compromised repository or malicious upstream update could execute code with the MCP host's local permissions, potentially accessing signing keys and operator files; application-level read-only mode does not constrain that code.

Autonomous Decision Making

Medium
Category
Excessive Agency
Confidence
75% confidence
Finding

Skill enables autonomous high-impact decisions without human-in-the-loop verification. Critical operations (destructive commands, financial transactions, data deletion) should require explicit user confirmation.
