OpenClaw Production Setup Guide

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This is an instruction-only setup guide that clearly discloses the sensitive infrastructure and credential work it points users toward.

Install this only if you intend to follow a production infrastructure guide and are comfortable creating and protecting API keys, OAuth tokens, SSH access, Cloudflare tokens, WhatsApp pairing, and backup encryption keys. Review the external guide before running any commands, because it is hosted outside the packaged skill and may change independently.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Category
Privilege Escalation
Content
- **Cloudflare**: Tunnel token for webhook ingress
- **Backup Encryption**: rclone crypt keys for Google Drive backups

All credentials are stored with restricted permissions (chmod 600) and never committed to git. The guide includes secret rotation procedures and config snapshot/rollback scripts.

Finding
Commands invoke sudo or root privileges. Verify this elevated access is necessary and justified.
