Vulnerability Type: Supply-chain exposure through unpinned dependencies
Risk Level: MediumVulnerable Code
requirements.txt:1-2:text dataclasses enumSKILL.md:103-108:bash # Python dependencies pip install -r requirements.txtTechnical Analysis
The installation instructions direct users to retrieve
dataclassesandenumfrom the configured Python package index without version constraints or integrity hashes. The application imports these modules atscripts/main.py:12-14, but both are provided by the standard library in the apparent supported Python environment.Unpinned package names allow dependency resolution to change over time. If a package release, package-index account, configured mirror, or dependency-resolution source is compromised, installation may retrieve attacker-controlled content. A malicious source distribution can execute code during its build or installation process, while malicious installed modules can execute when imported by the application.
Because these dependencies appear unnecessary on a modern Python version, they create supply-chain attack surface without providing corresponding functionality.
Attack Path
- A user follows the documented prerequisite and runs
pip install -r requirements.txt. pipresolves the unpinneddataclassesandenumnames using the user's configured package index or mirror.- An attacker who has compromised an upstream release, package account, or configured mirror supplies a malicious package version.
- Attacker-controlled code executes during package build or installation, or later when the module is imported.
- The payload operates with the permissions of the user or automation account running
pipor the application.

Remediation Suggestions
- Remove both entries from
requirements.txtwhen using a supported Python version becausedataclassesandenumare standard-library modules. - Document the minimum supported Python version explicitly, for example Python 3.8 or later.
- If legacy compatibility genuinely requires a backport, use an environment marker so it is installed only on affected Python versions.
- Pin every required external dependency to an approved version and verify it with hashes, for example by using
pip install --require-hashes. - Generate locked dependencies through a controlled process and scan them for known vulnerabilities.
- Use a trusted package index and prevent fallback to unapproved public or internal mirrors.
- Install dependencies inside an isolated, least-privileged virtual environment or build container.
