Asta Skill

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a documented academic-search helper that routes users to an external Asta MCP service and does not include local executable code or persistence.

Before installing, understand that Asta tool calls will use your ASTA_API_KEY with the external Asta MCP endpoint. Store that key securely and install this only if you want your agent to query that academic-search service.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Missing User Warnings

Confidence
76% confidence
Finding

The markdown states that the Asta MCP server must be registered with an x-api-key header and references the ASTA_API_KEY environment variable, which involves sensitive credential handling. While installation details are provided, there is no explicit warning to users to protect the key or understand that the external MCP server will receive authenticated requests.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Low
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence

Finding

The instruction says that if the user writes in Chinese, summaries must be presented in Chinese. This imposes a language behavior automatically rather than offering the user a choice, which matches the policy concern for forced language or locale without opt-in.
