openclaw-version-monitor

Security checks for vulnerabilities and agentic risk

Overview

This skill is a small, disclosed OpenClaw release-monitoring helper that fetches public GitHub release data and formats Chinese notifications for Telegram and Feishu.

Before installing or using this skill, confirm that the Telegram chat ID and any Feishu target are yours or intended, and review messages before enabling any automated schedule. No secrets or local files are requested by the artifact.

Vulnerability Patterns
  • Skill Instruction HijackingAlters the agent's session goals or safety constraints when the skill loads
  • Agent Memory PoisoningWrites attacker-controlled rules into memory that affect later sessions
  • Remote Payload Retrieval and ExecutionFetches external code whose behavior can change after review
  • Embedded Malicious CodeShips malicious scripts inside the skill and executes them locally
  • Unauthorized Access and Privilege EscalationObtains permissions beyond the task's legitimate needs
Vulnerability Patterns
  • Data ExfiltrationExternal Transmission, Env Variable Harvesting, File System Enumeration
  • Prompt InjectionInstruction Override, Hidden Instructions, Exfiltration Commands
  • Privilege EscalationExcessive Permissions, Sudo/Root Execution, Credential Access
  • Supply ChainUnpinned Dependencies, External Script Fetching, Obfuscated Code
  • Excessive AgencyUnrestricted Tool Access, Autonomous Decision Making, Scope Creep

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
91% confidence
Finding

The skill explicitly states it will push update content to Telegram and Feishu, but it does not warn the user that data will be transmitted to third-party services or describe what content leaves the local environment. Even if the payload is only release information, outbound messaging can expose usage patterns, destination identifiers, and any future included metadata, so the lack of disclosure and consent is a real privacy/security weakness.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Medium
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
95% confidence
Finding

The description says the skill translates release notes into Chinese and generates a Chinese version, with no indication that users can choose another language or keep the original language. This is a natural-language locale constraint presented as mandatory behavior rather than an opt-in choice.

Finding

Data is being sent to an external URL. This could be legitimate telemetry or data exfiltration. Manual review is recommended.

Natural-Language Policy Violations

Low
Category
Not specified by scanner
Confidence
88% confidence
Finding

This markdown file contains user-facing natural-language content entirely in Chinese, including headings, labels, and translation rules, but it does not indicate that the user can choose another language. Under the policy rule, forcing a specific language without opt-in can be a locale-policy issue unless the regional constraint is explicit and justified.
