Academic Translator

Security checks across malware telemetry and agentic risk

Overview

This is a coherent academic paper translation and research skill with disclosed PDF extraction, arXiv download, web-search use, and temporary local paper context storage.

Install if you are comfortable with papers being extracted locally, cached under /tmp, and used with web research for answers. Avoid using it on confidential or unpublished papers unless you disable web search and clear the temporary paper folders after the session.

Vague Triggers

Medium
Confidence
91% confidence
Finding
The trigger is broadly defined to activate on any request to translate or analyze an academic paper, which can cause the skill to take over interactions without clear user scoping or confirmation. In combination with web research and local file handling, this increases the chance of over-collection, unintended actions, or answering beyond the user’s explicit request.

Vague Triggers

High
Confidence
97% confidence
Finding
The '[any question]' capability is an unrestricted catch-all that effectively removes task boundaries for the skill. That makes the skill eligible to respond to arbitrary prompts using retained paper context and web search, creating a significant risk of scope creep, unintended data use, and misuse of external tools outside the paper-assistance purpose.

Missing User Warnings

Medium
Confidence
94% confidence
Finding
The skill stores extracted paper metadata and full text under /tmp for multi-turn use but does not warn users or obtain consent. Even if papers are often public, uploaded PDFs may contain unpublished, licensed, or sensitive research content, and temporary filesystem storage can expose that content to other processes, sessions, or accidental reuse.
