Openclaw Local Embedding

Security checks across malware telemetry and agentic risk

Overview

The skill does what it says, but its setup script weakens HTTPS protections during model download and saves proxy settings, so it should be reviewed before installation.

Install only if you need local OpenClaw embeddings on a proxy-restricted machine. Prefer configuring a trusted proxy CA instead of disabling TLS verification, independently verify the downloaded GGUF model if possible, and inspect or remove the saved .proxy file after setup, especially if the proxy URL contains credentials.

Finding
The script writes a working proxy URL to a persistent file in the user's home directory without warning or consent. Proxy URLs can reveal internal network topology, corporate infrastructure, or even embedded credentials, so storing them unredacted increases the risk of local disclosure and unintended reuse in later runs.
