# IB DP English A: Language and Literature Course Overview

## Course Aims
- Engage with texts from different periods, styles, and cultures
- Develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, presenting
- Develop critical thinking and analysis skills
- Develop sensitivity to language, structure, and meaning
- Develop understanding of how language, culture, and context determine text construction
- Develop appreciation of formal, stylistic, and aesthetic qualities of texts
- Develop powers of expression for various purposes and audiences

- **Non-literary texts**: Wide variety across all areas
- **Recommended hours**: 150 (SL), 240 (HL)

- Advertisements, articles, blogs, cartoons, diaries, editorials, essays, interviews, letters, news reports, opinion columns, reviews, speeches, travel writing, etc.
