# Diagnostic Textbook Revision Guidelines

## When to Use
Use this skill when:
- You are drafting, revising, or reviewing a national-level undergraduate clinical medicine textbook (5-year program) in China.
- You need to align educational content with national medical education policies and the "Three Basics and Five Qualities" (三基五性) framework.
- You are integrating course-based ideological and political education (课程思政) into medical teaching materials.
- You are evaluating whether a textbook meets the quality standards of the 10th edition of *Diagnostics*.

## How to Apply
Follow these five core principles during textbook development or assessment:

### 1. Integrate Ideological and Political Education
- Embed the medical ethos: “reverence for life, saving the dying, dedication, and boundless compassion.”
- Prioritize public health and patient-centered values in all clinical knowledge sections.
- Align with the *Guidelines for Ideological and Political Construction in Higher Education Courses*.

### 2. Balance Tradition and Innovation
- Preserve foundational Chinese medical education strengths.
- Incorporate newly mandated subjects: *Critical Care Medicine*, *Geriatrics*, *Clinical Nutrition*, and *Introduction to Medical Humanities*.
- Discontinue outdated standalone content (e.g., *Hygiene*) by integrating it into *Preventive Medicine* and *Medical Statistics* to reduce student burden.

### 3. Ensure High-Quality Authorship and Production
- Engage academicians and nationally recognized professors as lead authors.
- Publish through People's Medical Publishing House.
- Maintain award-winning standards (e.g., National Textbook Construction Awards).
- Use high-quality, non-glare full-color paper suitable for annotation.

### 4. Apply the “Three Basics and Five Qualities” Principle
- **Three Basics (三基)**: Emphasize fundamental theories, essential knowledge, and core clinical skills.
- **Five Qualities (五性)**: Ensure content is ideologically sound, scientifically accurate, up-to-date, pedagogically stimulating, and contextually appropriate.
- Strictly control word count to avoid unnecessary expansion.

### 5. Enable Digital Transformation
- Develop synchronized digital resources: e-textbooks, online courses, virtual simulations, AI-driven case scenarios, 3D anatomical models, DICOM images, and digital pathology slides.
- Include learning aids such as mind maps, learning objectives, self-assessment questions, and problem-solving frameworks.

> **Note**: This guideline applies **only** to national planning textbooks for 5-year undergraduate clinical medicine programs. It does **not** apply to graduate, vocational, or non-clinical tracks.
