# First Principles

## Overview

First Principles is a mode of thinking that involves reasoning from the most fundamental facts and laws, discarding analogies and assumptions to understand problems by returning to their essence.

## Core Thinking

### 1. Decompose the Problem
- Break complex problems down into the most fundamental facts
- Identify what are "assumptions" and what are "facts"
- Ask "Is this really true?"

### 2. Essential Inquiry
- What is the root cause of the problem?
- What is the underlying logic behind the phenomenon?
- What is the most fundamental, indivisible truth?

### 3. Rebuild from Scratch
- Reconstruct solutions based on fundamental facts
- Not limited by existing models or assumptions
- Seek innovative possibilities

## Application Method

### In Article Analysis
1. **Identify the Core Claim**: What is the author's most fundamental argument?
2. **Trace the Foundation of the Argument**: What are the underlying facts supporting this claim?
3. **Examine the Logical Chain**: Is the reasoning from premises to conclusion sound?
4. **Identify Weaknesses**: Which assumptions might not hold?

### Analytical Questions
- What are the author's basic assumptions?
- Are these assumptions reliable?
- If the assumptions change, would the conclusion change?
- Is there a simpler explanation?

## Analysis Tips

- Be wary of arguments of the type "because it has always been this way"
- Pay attention to distinguishing "correlation" from "causation"
- Look for the deep mechanisms beneath the surface

## Applicable Scenarios

- Disruptive innovation analysis
- Fundamental problem exploration
- Business strategy evaluation
- Science / technology articles
- Philosophy / thought pieces
