# Critical Thinking

## Overview

Critical Thinking is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and reason about information, aimed at forming well-founded judgments.

## Core Skills

### 1. Argument Analysis
- **Thesis**: What is the core question discussed in the article?
- **Evidence**: What facts, data, and examples support the argument?
- **Reasoning Method**: Is the logic from evidence to conclusion valid?

### 2. Logical Fallacy Identification
Common logical fallacies include:
- **Appeal to Authority**: Believing something is correct simply because an authority figure said so
- **Appeal to Emotion**: Persuading through emotion rather than logic
- **Straw Man**: Distorting the opponent's viewpoint before refuting it
- **Slippery Slope**: Assuming a small problem will inevitably lead to a major catastrophe
- **Hasty Generalization**: Drawing a universal conclusion from a few examples
- **Correlation ≠ Causation**: Confusing correlation with causation

### 3. Evidence Evaluation
- Is the source of evidence reliable?
- Is the sample representative?
- Are there alternative explanations?
- Is the research methodology scientific?

### 4. Multiple Perspectives
- Are there other viewpoints that have been overlooked?
- What are the different positions of stakeholders?
- How do culture / background influence perspectives?

## Analytical Questions

### At the Evidence Level
- Is this claim supported by evidence?
- Where does the evidence come from, and is it reliable?
- Does the evidence sufficiently support the conclusion?

### At the Logic Level
- Can B be deduced from A?
- Is there a logical leap?
- Are the premises valid?

### At the Perspective Level
- Who might disagree with this view?
- What alternative explanations exist?
- What important information has been omitted?

## Analysis Tips

- Critical thinking is not "denying everything," but "prudently evaluating"
- Distinguish between "opinions" and "facts"
- Identify the strong and weak points of an argument

## Applicable Scenarios

- News report analysis
- Academic article evaluation
- Business report review
- Op-ed / commentary analysis
